Elements and Performance Criteria
- Prepare for profiling timber or engineered wood products
- Review work order, specifications and workplace health and safety requirements, environmental protection practices and emergency procedures for timber profiling operations and, where required, check with appropriate personnel
- Identify and report hazards and use personal protective equipment according to workplace requirements and health and safety legislation to maintain safe work practices
- Obtain the type and quantity of material for profiling from a storage location
- Identify profile to be cut and select appropriate cutting blades according to specifications
- Set up profiling equipment
- Use equipment according to workplace health and safety procedures, manufacturer instructions and environmental protection practices
- Follow lock-out procedures, select and attach machine guides and install cutting blades
- Set depth of cut or profile according to the required shape and to minimise waste
- Stack material in close proximity to maximise ease of machine feeding
- Test equipment set-up for correct profile alignment through a trial run and adjust as required
- Cut timber or engineered wood product to profile
- Feed timber or engineered wood product into the machine at feed rate prescribed by organisational requirements
- Follow, maintain and adjust cutting sequence to produce the required quantity and maximise feed rate
- Check profiling process regularly and adjust to maintain desired depth and profile
- Dispose of incorrect cuts, off-cuts and defective material according to environmental protection practices
- Stack material safely in designated location according to work order
- Complete operator maintenance
- Lock out equipment according to workplace health and safety procedures
- Check cutting blades for bluntness or damage according to manufacturer specifications
- Remove and replace cutting blades according to manufacturer recommendations
- Keep machine area clear of dust and debris according to workplace health and safety procedures
- Record and report production outcomes, equipment faults and maintenance requirements to appropriate personnel
